Year 4 Ignite day – Bradwell Abbey trip

By admin23rd November 2016

Year four had a great time re-igniting our Roman project by going to Bradwell Abbey. Here we: learnt lots about and got to design our own mosaics, learnt about Roman technology and got to see and use some ourselves, and we also got to experience a Roman banquet which the guests thoroughly enjoyed having their own body slave.

We all had a great time and can’t wait to show all the great learning we have done in our project.

Year 4 Ignite days

By admin14th October 2016

Year 4 had an amazing time this week on their Ignite days! We started the day by reading some Roman fact books and giving ourselves Roman names. We got to experience so many great things, such as, cooking a Roman pizza, creating Roman helmets, shields and mosaics, going on a Roman march and buying our food and equipment at a Roman forum after learning about roman numerals and making roman coins. We all had a great time in really high learning zones!

Year 4 – A Roman Experience

By f gilders14th October 2016

Year 4 have had a busy week this week as we begin our new project – The Romans! It was great to see everyone dressed up and in character for our Roman Ignite.

We created Roman helmets and laurel wreaths which we bought with the Roman money we created. We also made some extremely tasty Roman pizza with feta cheese, honey and oil on top – yum! We had some grape juice which we crushed with our hands (which got a little messy). In the afternoon, we visited a Roman Forum to buy our goods and we were drilled outside by General Kerinus as Roman soldiers!

In Literacy, we continued with our Invent character descriptions. We are almost ready for our Hot Task next week and are looking forward to seeing the improvements in our writing following the last teaching sequence!

Now we have all become more confident with addition and subtraction, we are ready to move on to multiplication and division. Can you think of any way you might use multiplication over the weekend?

Our homework this week includes spellings and a diary entry or recount of the ignite day.

Have a lovely weekend.

Miss Bliss, Miss Cooper, Miss Courtney, Mr Kerin & Miss Gilders

History at Countess Way

By admin7th October 2016

It was a very proud day at Countess Way on Thursday the 6th of October as four teams came to play in a football tournament organised by Mr Spence.  It was history in the making for more than one reason as for the first time the grass field at Countess Way was being used for a sporting event. Secondly it was the first time that Countess Way had ever had a team in a competition. Although the results didn’t go the way of the home side, it was a momentous occasion and even more so in the last match. It was the big ‘derby’ when the clash of Countess Way v Fen Street came together.

We are incredibly proud of the year 3 and 4 children who played with an open mindset to something new, who grew their understanding of what it means to play in a team together and they had to have plenty of belief in themselves and their team-mates to believe they could achieve!

Below is a photo of the history makers and the two Brooklands teams!

Well done!

4D Creative designers

By admin30th September 2016

Year 4 have been busy creating designs for our library and independent spaces in key stage two. First we learnt about measurements, then drew designs labelling the sizes and objects we were using and then finally we have used all the resources brought in from home and by school we have created our very own new spaces.

Great learning zones and they look great!

Year 4 – Week 4 – Build a balcony!

By f gilders30th September 2016

Year 4 have been considering what makes a Quality Learning Environment. We were all really excited about being a part of the worlds biggest lesson looking at the Global Goals, of which Quality Learning Environment is one of them! Some children from each class visited a school which is in the process of being built. They shared their learning with us after their trip! Design ideas for how we could make our balconies into quality learning environments were discussed, votes were collected, and winning designs were made using lots of recycled materials in all shapes and sizes. We are looking forward to seeing these ideas being grown and developed next week
