Year One have been practising “What I Am” by Will.i.am this week, ready for our performance on Tuesday. Please practise lots at home!
This week, we began our Journey Project, where we have been reflecting on the children’s personal transitions into Year One. We discussed how much has changed and how they have grown, along with how our ethos and values have still remained the same. Our task was to decorate our classroom willow tree, the children wanted to represent their journey through our ‘Open, Grow, Believe’ ethos and created heart, star and medal shapes to hang from our tree.
We have also been very busy rehearsing for our ‘Every Child’ performance next week. The children have enjoyed learning songs, dances and creating special props.
As part of our ‘Every Child’ performance, the children have been learning and rehearing the songs below. If you have time, please practise these songs at home with your child, so that they have as much confidence as possible on the day. Thank you.
Trolls – Get back up again
Robbie Williams – Love my life
Open, Grow, Believe
Michael Buble and Elmo – Believe in yourself
Will.I.Am – What I am
Power in me
As part of computing, we have been looking at why we need codes. We also had a go at coming up with our own secret codes – can you crack them?
Well done to this week’s Golden tea attendees! We had a great time celebrating their achievements whilst enjoying delicious biscuits and juice. Well done KS1!
We have had lots of exciting things happen in Year One this week, we have been very busy!
In Project, we have been exploring and comparing our country to France. The children have really enjoyed our ‘All About Me’ project and a great way to finish it off was to try some yummy French food!
In Literacy, we have been finishing our writing sequence from our ‘You Choose’ book, we continued to look at questioning this week to grow our understanding of what makes a question. Here the children are asking others where they would love to travel to, this was then used for our invent stage of writing.
We have also been getting very excited about Design Technology (DT), the children have been putting the finishing touches to the wicker leaves they made.
This morning, 1A celebrated, a number of children gained their determined pins. We are so proud of those children, they are our role models in class. We will continue to achieve more targets and hopefully soon we will have more children achieving their determined pins.
We have been very busy across Year One, working on our new text ‘You Choose’ by Pippa Goodhart and Nick Sharratt in Literacy. The book questions the children on topics such as where they’d like to visit and what they’d like to eat. Here are 1b being question Kings and Queens, looking closely at what makes a question and the big questions we would love to ask!
In computing we have been working on programming algorithms, here are the children following their own instructions on how to make a jam sandwich.
Well done to the proud attendees of last week’s Golden tea party!
I wonder who will attend this week – good luck everyone!!
