Fen Street KS1 and Foundation Sports Day!

A massive well done to all the children that took part in Sports Day. We saw everyone having fun, trying their best and supporting each other. Thank you to all the staff that helped to make this event a success and for all the parents that came to cheer on their children!

The results were very close! Well done to the green team for claiming first place! You all believed in yourself and worked as a team to succeed!

Then an extra well done for blue team for being the best team at opening their hearts to cheer and encourage their team mates. Throughout the practices and the official sports day, we saw red team show lots of resilience and grow their skills in each activity. Yellow team were also very good at believing in each other and cheering on their team.

Well done and thank you to everyone that took part!

 

Science Investigation

In 2B, we planned an investigation to explore the 3 primary colours and how they combine to form other colours. We took 5 beakers and filled up the 1st, 3rd and 5th beaker with a solution of the 3 primary colours. Inserted folded up paper towels linking all 5 beakers for the fluid to transfer into the empty beakers. This resulted in the primary colours combining to form new colours in the empty beakers.

The aim was to focus on making observations and discussing what may happen (predictions).

We recorded the findings in the form of pictures, video discussions and in our books in the form of diagrams.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience of working scientifically and were fully immersed into the lessons.

100% attendance!

Over half of 2B has had 100% attendance this half term. We also got the attendance trophy again this week! You have all worked so hard over the past few weeks and I am very proud of you all! Well done everyone and have a lovely half term!

Yoga

In Year 2 we have been trying out yoga to help us relax and stay calm. We had competitions to see who could stand on one foot for the longest!! Here are some photos of our attempts…

Natural History Museum

Yesterday, Year 2 went on an incredible trip to the Natural History Museum! We got to explore the dinosaur area and our favourite part was the moving, roaring T-Rex! Did you know that dinosaurs can have up to 25 eggs in a nest? Have you ever wondered why some dinosaurs have sharper teeth than others? I’m sure we could tell you the answer if you ask us!

We also got to explore the minibeast, bird, mammal and earthquake sections which were also very interesting. We even got to go on an earthquake simulator where we felt what it would be like to be in a shop during an actual earthquake!

Thank you for all the parent helpers. We hope that you had a great day too and have had some time to rest since!!

Year 2 Chocolate Experience!

Thank you to everyone that has been involved with our ‘Chocolate Experience’. We have really enjoyed presenting all our facts to our families and we hope you enjoyed it too. The best part was definitely quizzing the parents on how much they had learnt!!

Maths Methods

When you are doing maths homework at home, including Mathletics, it may be useful to refer to the attachment below. It has the main approaches we use for each of the calculations and fractions. Your child may not be familiar with all the methods and they will probably have a method they prefer, which is absolutely fine. If you do have any concerns or questions, come and ask their class teacher and we would be happy to discuss the methods with you.
