Settling into Year 3

By E Redley17th July 2018

We are very impressed with how the children have settled into their new year 3 classes. They have been learning to cope with many changes and have already shown lots of skills that will help them to be ‘balanced’ throughout the year.

Here are a few images from some of their learning. We used the outdoor story mountains to retell the story of Boogie Bear by David Walliams. In one of our maths lessons, the children had to work together to solve a number bond activity by matching numbers and colours. The children displayed great resilience during this when it became more difficult.

We are really enjoying getting to know the children and to see new friendships being formed.

Year 6 Residential News! Day 2

By Mrs E Allen11th July 2018

Frontier residential day 2

Had another brilliant day. King swing was the highlight for most of us as well as walking the plank. We have been testing our trust and leadership skills.

Just finishing the night with an Uno championship!

Sad to be heading home tomorrow 😞

Frontier residential day 1

After a safe journey on the coach we arrived and excitedly unpacked. We were eager to explore and headed to Stanwick Lakes for a picnic and a play at the park.

Our first centre activities were fencing, archery and kayaking… Some people fell in the water twice!

We have enjoyed toasting marshmallows and watching the football and will be heading to bed soon.

Can’t wait to see what tomorrow has in store!

There’s a Monster in Fen Street Nursery

By Jenny Mitchell9th July 2018

This week we are reading There’s a Monster in My Book!

We read the book book outside and discovered the monster in the book had ESCAPED in our classroom! We went on a Monster hunt and the children wrote how many they found and then counted them.

The monster told us that he wanted to stay in our classroom and play. The children had one monster each who they named, loved, played with and talked to all morning! Here are some photos of all the fun we had this morning.

This little monster was read a story!

One little girl made her monster, called Daisy, a house. She then taught a Daisy how to play drums. She then put her monster in a Barbie car and made sure she had her seatbelt on!

Lots of children kept their monster in a pocket to keep them safe.

Maths investigations!

By l hearn6th July 2018

Today Year 6 have been working together to solve different measure problems.

Here are things we found out…

“We have found that some people’s arm span is the same as their height but this didn’t work for everyone. ”

“We measured the balcony in metres and it is 12.32m but also tried different methods like measuring it with our hands.”

Celebrating a fantastic week of learning!

By l hearn29th June 2018

Today has been our last day in the school in Kandy. It has been an incredible week where we have used collaboration and creativity to develop the children’s understanding of the world. We have loved building relationships with the children and staff and learning alongside them. The school have been extremely welcoming and it has been a great opportunity for both schools to share good practice and develop teaching.

We can’t wait to come back and see our classes and everyone else so we can tell them all about our trip! In future months, we will do lots of work building on the project we have started in Sri Lanka.

Mathletics Summer Challenge!

By l hearn20th June 2018

Next week there is a Mathletics Summer Challenge, where we compete against other schools to get the most Mathletics points! The competition runs from 25th June – 1st July 2018.

Please encourage your children to get logged on and complete lots of activities on there so that they can gain points for our school (and practise lots of concepts that they’ve learnt this year in school)! We would love to get as many points as possible and get as high up on the schools leader board as we can!

Good luck everyone!
