EMERGENCY! Paramedic visit to Foundation

30th September 2014

This week we are learning all about our core book ‘Funny Bones’. To ignite our project we were very excited to have a visit from a paramedic.

We learnt all about what a paramedic does, what you would find in an ambulance and what to do if you had a cut on your arm. We had great fun bandaging up each other!nmk9g7j907ak

Eco Art in Autumn

27th September 2014

In Foundation we believe in the spirit of the forest schools ethos and try to get outside to explore as much as possible.

The children in Foundation have been working as a team to create eco art using the things that we have been finding outside in autumn.

Take a look at our big ‘Art Attacks’, we had a blast making them!

Volkswagen Project 2014!

26th September 2014Miss K Higginbottom

Today a group of teachers visited Volkswagen Head office in Blakelands to embark upon our next whole school learning project. We planned and worked alongside mechanical engineers,  market researchers and logistical experts to put together an amazing collection of mini projects linking to real life situations at Volkswagen Group. This project will take place in a couple of weeks time and we will be presenting our learning at Head Office in November – we can’t wait! If any parents are reading this who work at Volkswagen – please come and see us so that you can be involved too! We hope to build upon the success of our last business driven project at Network Rail. Here are a few sneaky pictures of the teachers having a tour! 20140926_112420 20140926_112358 20140926_112351 20140926_095750 20140926_094148

Autumn Leaves

25th September 2014

Welcome to Foundation! The teachers in Early Years were delighted to welcome all of the children to Foundation last week. Everyone has settled well and are very involved in their learning around our unit.

This week the children have been very busy in Foundation looking at the autumn leaves that are falling in our playground.

We spent the day looking closely at the colours of the autumn leaves and we then made a picture using the colours that we could see.

We worked as a team to paint, cut, glue and colour our picture. Everyone was very proud of our picture. We can’t wait to learn more tomorrow!

Crack the Code Ignite Day!

22nd September 2014admin

Year 6 ‘ignited’ our new project ‘Cracking the Code’ on Monday!

We had an insightful day learning how coding works on ‘Scratch’ a computer system, understanding the importance of Bletchley Park and how it relates to Code Breaking in World War Two and learning how to write coded messages to our friends in Morse Code, a Zodiac Cipher and a Caesar Cipher!

Here are some pictures of the day!

If you would like to have a go cracking some codes at home you can visit:

Year 1 and 4 share their learning

22nd September 2014admin

1a and 4a met on Friday to share their amazing key author learning. 1a were superb in showing their amazing floor book with all of their learning inside and in particular not only singing their Gruffalo song but teaching the year 4 children their song. It was clear that year 1 had learnt a lot about Julia Donaldson.

Unfortunately, 4a’s edited version of their interview with Micheal Morpurgo had a few technical hitches however they were still able to show some clips of their work.

We can’t wait to share more learning with different years across the school.

The Egyptians took over!

By admin22nd September 2014

The children in year 4 had an amazing ignite today as they left their normal selves behind and became Egyptian slaves, dancers, Pharaohs, craftsmen and actors today.

They had an amazing morning in which they were given the alter ego of an Egyptian to perform as for the day and took part in creating a variety of different objects that would have been placed in a Pharoah’s tomb. Amazing learning zones were achieved by all of the children in the morning as they were able to physically learn about the Egyptians.

Some children made charm bracelets to place in their tomb.
Some children learnt how to create embalming oils and mummify something.
Whilst some children created their own perfume from herbs.
In the afternoon, the children became their Egyptian counterparts as slaves, dancers, Pharaohs and actors. The children were superb and were congratulated on their acting skills.
A huge thanks must be said to all of the parents, aunties and adults who helped on the day.
The children are definitely excited about the rest of their project and are looking forward to creating their own tombs.
