Lego electricity ignite

By 23rd February 2016

Wow!!! We had so much fun during our ignite morning!! The children built a lego village, they then made electrical circuits to make their houses light up! They even got to make a train move along the tracks! I have never seen so many learning zone 5’s! Best of all Mr Garside who came in to do the workshop said he was so amazed by the behaviour and maturity the children showed! We are proud of the children every single day but for someone else to say it just proves how wonderful they are!

We think the photos will speak for themselves!

Growing Ignite

By V Holloway23rd February 2016

Year 1 on Countess Way ignited their next project yesterday, ‘Growing’.

We did lots of fun activities including:

Tasting fruit and vegetables from around the world and guessing where they come from.

We tried exotic fruits like passion fruit, avocado and papaya- even using our WOW words to describe their taste and texture.
We planted bean seeds to keep in our greenhouse.
We started our bean diaries by writing instructions on how to plant a bean seed, we will be observing our bean seeds closely in the next few weeks to see how they grow!
We did observational drawings of flowers, plants and leaves and labelled the different parts.
We had to look very closely at the shapes of the petals and leaves!
As you can see, we have made an excellent start collecting lots of new knowledge and learning for our project! We can’t wait to find out more.
Thank you to the parents who have donated seeds already and for the parents who helped yesterday- it is greatly appreciated!

Year 3/4 Survival Ignite

23rd February 2016D Gray

Year 3 and 4 were lucky enough to visit the Caldecotte Xperience to ignite their new project ‘Extreme Survival’. They took part in bushcraft, archery and orienteering: skills people might need in extreme environments. Well done to all the children, they had a fantastic time and were brilliantly behaved.

Year 6 Viking Ignite day

8th February 2016

Year 6 have had a fantastic day today on their Viking Ignite. We spent the morning pretending we were real Vikings and Saxons, making lots of Viking artefacts, including:

  • Viking rune necklaces
  • clay pots
  • candles
  • clay brooch casts
  • Viking runes and bags to put them in
  • medicine bags

We then heard some Viking stories and learnt new facts about the Viking and Saxon period.

In the afternoon, we became archaeologists, doing our own archaeological digs to find artifacts and try and work out what they were and what they told us about life in Viking times.

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who made such an effort with your Viking outfits, you looked amazing!!

After we went to see the building site we went into the hall to use all f our big building materials to create our own houses.

Miss Mason read us ‘The Three Little Pigs’.

And we built, built, built!

Big Build Ignite – The Building Site

10th January 2016

We are really lucky to have a building site right on our doorstep. To ignite our new Three Little Pigs/Building project we went to see what was going on! It was super exciting to see the huge crane lifting parts of the roof frame on to the house. All the building materials were on display and we could see a forklift truck come and gather the materials.

Three Little Pigs- Ignite

By Mrs l Jenkins9th January 2016

The children spent time in the small hall just using the construction and blocks to make different houses. They worked together organising how it would look and discussed what it needed, ‘Now it needs a door.’ ‘I’ve put the windows here.’

Owl visit

By l hearn8th January 2016

Today we had a very special visit from Sarah and her owls. We were able to use our knowledge of owls to answer questions and we found out many more interesting facts. Did you know that not all owls are nocturnal?  Sarah told us this is a myth as only a quarter of owls are nocturnal, the rest are diurnal!

Ask us when we get home about the other interesting facts we learnt!

Year 5 Earth, Space and Beyond Ignite!

6th January 2016admin

Year 5 yesterday had a great start to the new term and new year by learning all about space. We were lucky enough to experience the space dome where we were taken into a another world to witness earth, stars, planets and different galaxies in a way we had never seen them before. Unfortunately we couldn’t take any pictures inside but I’m sure the children will have lots to say about it!

We also spent time on the iPads and laptops researching different planets in our solar system and the atmospheres that surrounds our Earth to create posters and information to help each other learn more.

I hope everyone enjoyed it and is looking forward to discovering more about this amazing topic!
