Restorative Practice at Brooklands Farm

By admin1st October 2015

At Brooklands Farm, we use restorative practices to equip all children with lifelong problem solving skills. In this video, these children demonstrate how restorative practices can be used to solve playground disagreements. This scenario was made up by the children in the video. They each decided which role they would like to play and I’m sure you’ll agree they do a fantastic job of making it look like real life!

Our Roman Ignite trip!

28th September 2015

Wow what fun we had today!! We had the opportunity to take part in a Roman banquet, where we got to see many of the meals the Romans once indulged in! We thought some of them sounded nice, but others such as calf brain custard didn’t take our fancy as much! We looked closely at what would be on a Roman banquet table! I wonder if the children remember why the feather was on the table!

After this we met a Roman soldier who took us on as recruits in the army. We learnt that we would be fed and have somewhere to live but we didn’t like the sound of the punishments! It was interesting to see all the different weapons and what they were used for!

After some lovely lunch in the glorious sunshine and surroundings of Bradwell Abbey we explored our creative skills and made some mosaics.

There is a small selection of photos below! Thanks for a wonderful day year 4! 🙂

1c Went For a Walk

By J Francis25th September 2015
This week we have been learning the story ‘Rosie’s Walk.’  We went on our own walk to the park and talked about what we saw around us.  We are going to use this as inspiration for writing next week when we create our own versions of the story!

Thank you again to all of the parents who helped us.  Here are some pictures of us having lots of fun!

Titanic ignite day

24th September 2015

Year 5 had a terrific Titanic Ignite day on Tuesday!

Children spent half of the day collecting lots of knowledge about the Titanic tragedy from the expert, John,  who brought real artefacts from the ship and props from the film set for us to look at – he even gave away replicas of 3rd class mugs as prizes for individuals to keep!

The other half of the day was spent living the lifestyle of a passenger on board the Titanic in 1912. Children dressed up as 1st class or 3rd class passengers, listened to the music that the orchestra may have played during the voyage and cooked their own 3rd class meal – vegetable stew and dumplings!  After a lot of hard work in the kitchen,  they were then treated to a 1st class dessert of pears, éclairs and ice cream.

Both children and teachers had a fantastic day and we look forward to continuing our voyage over the next few weeks!
