Being Brooklands Boys and Girls

By Mrs S Taylor11th January 2016

In assembly today Mrs Higginbottom talked to us about what it meant to be Brooklands boys and girls. We thought about the qualities we need to have to be part of the Brooklands team and what we would need to do to Open, Grow and Believe.

Some of the words we came up with were:

Learning zone 4 or 5

High well being

Reciprocal relationships

Gotcha smiles

Open dialogues

Growing our relationships

Good eye contact

Believing in ourselves, others and our team

If you get a chance to, maybe your children could talk to you about what they have done at school today to Open, Grow & Believe.

Inspiring learning through Parental involvement

By D Gray17th December 2015

Today we had Sachiel’s dad in to help us in our learning about the Ancient Greeks.

We learnt how to say ‘good morning’ and ‘how are you?’ in modern Greek, as well as more important phrases like ‘Can I have a chicken kebab please?’!

We then heard a lovely story about how the Ancient Greek gods Zeus, Poseidon and Hades came to inherit the universe.

My thanks again to Sachiel’ dad, it’ so great to have support like this is our community.

If you feel like you have anything that you can contribute or if your company can link up with the school, then please do let me know!

What happens when you eat food?

By D Gray27th November 2015

We’ve done some great practical science all about the digestive system. The children were able to see food being mashed up with saliva and begin its journey through the body! The children asked some brilliant questions and really deepened their understanding about how the body works.

Chewing food

Down the oesophagus

Stomach churning with stomach acid

Through the intestines

Out to where our waste ends up…

Where did the children think our body parts were?

A big thank you!

By Mrs S Taylor19th November 2015

A huge thank you to all the parents that helped out at Countess Way today making lanterns. It was fantastic to see everyone working in partnership together and the children loved having you in their classrooms helping out. The lanterns are looking fantastic! We are looking forward to seeing you at the lantern festival tomorrow!

A trip to Fen Street

By V Holloway19th November 2015

Yesterday the whole of Brooklands Farm Countess Way went to visit the rest of our Brooklands family at Fen Street to practise our Lantern Festival! All the staff were amazed and proud of every single child’s determination, resilience and enthusiasm as they walked between the two sites. It was also lovely to see the year 3’s and 4’s be such caring, considerate and thoughtful role models to the younger children.

The lantern festival rehearsal was very exciting and we can’t wait to share all our lanterns, songs and dances with you on Friday!

Open, Grow, Believe pin assemblies

By D Gray12th November 2015

It has been brilliant to see children who have arrived to Brooklands Farm since September, receive their Open, Grow, Believe pin. This shows that the children are understanding and taking on board the school ethos. Thank you also to the parents who came in to share in the celebration, it’s so important for children to see us working together and celebrating their achievements together.

Welcome Back

By Mrs S Taylor2nd November 2015

We have had a superb day back at Countess Way after half term. Our assembly with Mrs Higginbottom gave us a chance to remember the skills we develop in each year group and we have settled quickly back into being friendly, determined, calm, balanced and achieving Brooklands’ children.

I can’t wait to see what new learning this term brings! Here are some of the high learning zones I spotted this morning:
