Have a lovely weekend.
Due Friday 2nd March – please email to MIss Snowdon directly or to the office at Countess Way.
We have been writing 500 words stories this week. They need to be finished for home learning by next Friday. These will need to be typed and emailed to school.
This writing is an assessment piece of writing so it is of the upmost importance that adults do not have involvement or help you, when you are writing this. The writing you finish will be going in your hot task writing folder towards your SATs writing evidence.
This writing must be in school by next Friday, otherwise it will not be able to count towards your writing evidence.
You will need:
- The photocopy of your book, with your current draft (if you submitted your stories you are just doing the redrafting part of this task)
- Finish your current story draft – type up if not already
- Make sure you have DADWAVERS description throughout
- Description
- Action
- Dialogue
- Where
- Adverbial
- Verb
- Rhetorical question
- Simile/metaphor
- mark using your Y6 ladder (Working towards, At, Greater depth)
- Grow the greens in a final draft of your writing
Have a lovely weekend
6D have enjoyed taking part in a morning discussing relationships online and how interactions can effect the feelings of others.
They have taken part in positive dialogue, discussing different online situations, behaviours and relationships, suggesting very sensible and mature solutions and explanations. They are looking forward to recording their evidence of this learning on their realsmart online learning portfolios!
6D’s top tips for parents and children for having positive online relationships and using positive online behaviour:
- People can interpret things differently. Be aware that a message/ post online that you think is funny, could be embarrassing or upsetting to others.
- Never respond to a negative message or comment. Always tell an adult straight away.
- Never talk to a person you have never met or is hiding their identity.
- Something you post online (picture, video, comment, message) is there forever, once you have sent it. They can never be completely deleted. Never post anything that you will feel regretful about later.
- Parents and adults should always know what their children are doing online (games, social media sites, friends, interactions). Even as we get older, we need to be supervised and checked on.
- Always ask a person’s permission before sharing a picture of them online.
- If you’re not sure that your post or message is ok, then it probably isn’t. Always get an adult’s opinion and consent.
- If it doesn’t feel ok, then it is not. If you feel unhappy or uncomfortable, remove yourself and tell an adult.
- If your parent says ‘No’, then you do not use it.
Next week, we’ll be starting to think about our story ideas to enter the
BBC Radio 2 500 Words writing competition!

Please write a summary of the plot of your favourite story and keep it in school from Wednesday, to use in school to assist planning.
Please also complete your personalised tasks on mathletics, Sumdog and spellingframe, as well as continuing with your self-study to close your gaps.
A big well done to those people who have been using Sumdog every day. Some children have built over 12 hours now and are seeing that their spelling gaps are narrowing! For those who have not been logging on to Sumdog regularly, please know that this is an amazing resource and we are seeing that it is helping the regular users to progress in their learning journey. You are missing a trick!
The Year 6 teachers
We are proud to celebrate another member of the 6D team earning his Strong and Powerful pin. Many congratulations on all of the hard work you have put in to earning your badge. Thoroughly deserved!
Miss Snowdon and 6D

We were so proud to award this amazing boy his Strong and Powerful pin! It was lovely to celebrate his achievements with his friends and family around him. A special congratulations, too, for being our only member to proudly wear pins from Foundation (pink) all the way to Year 6 (red)! This is the first time this has happened for me as a teacher of Brooklands Farm. A very special moment!
