It’s nearly time!

By admin3rd September 2015

I can’t believe the summer is over already! (Even the weather agrees!) I hope everyone has had an amazing time, whether you have been relaxing at home or off adventuring somewhere exotic!

All of the teachers at Brooklands Farm have been back at school since yesterday, busy learning to be even better teachers and preparing for Monday!

I am very excited about my new role as Head of School for Lower Key Stage 2 and I can’t wait for the children to be here so we can start becoming balanced learners and achieving together!

See you on Monday everyone 🙂

Summer holiday homework

By 22nd July 2015

Summer Holiday Homework

During our transition Project, we looked at the painting ‘Mr and Mrs Andrews’ by Thomas Gainsborough. We will be continuing to link our learning to the painting in September, as part of the National Gallery’s ‘Take One Picture’ project.

Please choose at least one of these activities to do for your summer holiday homework:

  • Re-create the painting ‘Mr and Mrs Andrews’ in your own style! You could paint it, collage it, do it as a mosaic, sketch it etc
  • Research Thomas Gainsborough – his life and his most famous pieces of artwork. Create a Powerpoint presentation or information leaflet about him.
  • Pretend you are Mr or Mrs Andrews and write your diary. You could share how you are feeling, your thoughts on your relationship etc.
  • Write a story with Mr and Mrs Andrews as your main characters and their farm as the setting.

Please bring your homework into school on the first day back, Monday 7th September, so that classes can share what they have done over the summer together.

If you are looking for a day out which will link to our ‘Take One Picture’ Project, then we recommend you visit the National Gallery in London and find Thomas Gainsborough’s painting ‘Mr and Mrs Andrews’ to have a look at the real thing!

Year 3 visit the new school

By D Gray5th June 2015

Year 3 had a great time visiting our new Brooklands Farm Primary School on Countess Way. We enjoyed walking through our community and even had a little picnic on the new field! Year 3 asked some fantastic questions and have grown their understanding of how a building gets from the design stage to the finished stage.

Brains reach high learning zones!

By admin22nd May 2015

3c have demonstrated incredibly high learning zones over the past few days! They have been working on a persuasive text to encourage others to wear a helmet when riding their bike, skateboard, scooter or skates. Every child has incorporated persuasive openers and technical language. When their text was complete, the children came up with actions to perform their work to each other. A huge well done to Alyssa and Ariella who performed a persuasive poem alongside a dance in a whole school assembly! 🙂

Mouldy brains!

22nd May 2015D Gray

Year 3 made some jelly brains on Friday. We left them over the weekend, but we left them in the heat and exposed with no protection. Thus when we returned, the brains had gone mouldy.

We learnt that unless we look after our brains with learning, vitamins, protection and connections then they can become damaged.

Brainy Brains!

By admin20th May 2015

3C have really enjoyed learning about the brain the past few days! We spend Monday producing art work about the 2 sides of our brain; the left being our learning/ academic side and the right being our fun and creative side. The art work they produced was used as the front cover for their brain booklet where they can store all their learning from the week.
We also had a go at making jelly brains with spaghetti. Over the last few days, we have seen what happens to our brain when it does not receive any water, activity, learning, nurture etc. The result was 24 bowls of mouldy jelly! WOW! Children have used this to appreciate the importance of looking after their brains.
On Monday afternoon we had a visitor in to talk about the importance of protecting our brains and why it is important to wear a helmet when riding a bike. The children are now using this information to write a persuasive text to others on the importance of wearing a safety helmet and the consequences if they do not.

Watch this space for more updates 🙂

Success at the bake sale!

By admin15th May 2015

A huge well done to all of year 3 for the amazing bake sale they hosted on Monday after school. They spent the morning making cakes, smoothies and punch to help raise money for Nepal Earthquake. Year 3 developed lots of skills during this fun packed day such as; measuring weights, adding and subtracting weights, adding money and giving change, team work, communication and some even had first hand experience of selling! 🙂 It was amazing to see all the children achieving high well-being and learning zones and showing sensitivity and maturity towards the disaster in Nepal.

WE RAISED A STAGGERING £87.30!!! Well done team! And thank you for helping Nepal in their time of need!

A Magical Afternoon at Brooklands

27th March 2015V Holloway

Yesterday afternoon saw Year 5’s Harry Potter project come to an end as they shared their learning and lessons with year 3 and 4 children. Wand skills, potions and quidditch were the three lessons being planned and taught by the year 5’s. They really enjoyed sharing their learning journey and were very responsible as they ‘taught’ the skills and knowledge they had learnt to the younger children. Harry Potter has been a fantastic project in Year 5, they have all really engaged with it and we have seen some outstanding work and amazing progress being made as a result! Well Done Year 5!
