Good Luck in year 3 class 2D as you begin to Balance!

I just wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to all of the amazing children and their families in Year 2D for all of your hard work this year and the amazing support you have given this year. You have all worked hard to achieve lots of amazing things this year and I shall definitely miss you all. However this doesn’t mean I will not see you around school and feel free to come and connect and say hello if you see me! Now off to the next step in your journey!

Remember your ‘Calm’ in year 3 as you add ‘Balance’ to your life skills and know that with Open, Grow, Believe you can achieve anything. Friendship is definitely the key and I want to thank you all for your friendship this year!

Look forward to seeing your ‘gotcha smiles’ on Monday with your new teams!

Maths Methods

When you are doing maths homework at home, including Mathletics, it may be useful to refer to the attachment below. It has the main approaches we use for each of the calculations and fractions. Your child may not be familiar with all the methods and they will probably have a method they prefer, which is absolutely fine. If you do have any concerns or questions, come and ask their class teacher and we would be happy to discuss the methods with you.

Welcome back Year 2 CW

Wow what a return to school Year 2 have had on Countess Way! It is good to be back and seeing lots of really high learning zones and amazing progress in writing! What has particularly impressed me has been the presentations that everyone has so far presented! Olivia Bailey and Emily Brown blew us away on Monday with lovely personal features linked to facts, creative acrostic poems and most importantly how prepared they were and how well they knew their ‘stuff’!

Tuesday continued in a similar way with some super presentations from Callum and Nicole who really expressed themselves, spoke clearly and thought carefully about their audience! I really can’t wait to hear some of the others!

Chocolate, Chocolate and more Chocolate in Year 2D

On Friday 13th we were very privileged to invite Dawn Fry, a chocolatier who is the great Granddaughter of the creator of Fry’s Chocolate, to help us understand the process of chocolate creation better. Dawn taught us about the 6 steps of the chocolate process from bean to bar and we had the opportunity to taste chocolate from the start to final process. We also had the opportunity to design our own chocolate bar and create our own chocolate lolly which was yummy!

The next steps for us is to learn how chocolate goes from the bean to the bar and why climate is important for this process alongside focussing on Fair Trade, human and physical geography and why chocolate is an expensive commodity!

Welcome back and Happy New Year 2D

Welcome back to the new term and the new year to all of the children and families in class 2D. This week we have been spending our learning time focusing on science and in particular animals including humans. We have been looking at healthy eating and what it means to have a balanced diet. This weeks homework will be encouraging children to keep a food and exercise diary so they can see how healthy their lifestyle is.

Next week we begin our project on Chocolate and will spend time focusing on climate zones that are perfect for growing chocolate. We will also be reading the Roald Dahl book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory so maybe this could be a book that you also read at home.

Dragons Den

Last week Year 2 completed their Lighthouses Project with a design create and communicate with a Dragon’s Den style pitch!

Their task was to create a lunchbox for Miss Low after she had been inspired by Mr Grinling (from the Lighthouse Keepers Lunch) to have a way of transporting her lunch and important documents between Fen Street and Countess Way.

In trios, after collecting and connecting their knowledge of materials as well as evaluating existing lunchboxes, they designed a lunchbox for Miss Low. They had to think carefully about what Miss Low would need in her lunchbox, what materials they could use which would be light but waterproof as well as any special features.

They went through the design process, even collecting feedback from other trios in order to edit and improve their designs.

When they had completed their final design they had to present their design to the rest of year 2 and the teachers.

Mr Morrison, Miss McShane and Miss Holloway were extremely proud of how well everyone worked in their trio and their incredibly high learning zones. They all produced high quality work and had open mindsets when need to edit and redraft their design!
