Strong and Powerful home learning

By Miss Rebecca Snowdon25th September 2015

This week, you have two pieces of home learning due in for Wednesday next week.

The first is reading. You need to read the provided biography of Nelson Mandela and answer the questions.

The second piece is a maths task that has been set by your maths teacher.

If you need another copy of any of these tasks you need to ask your teacher.

Don’t forget that home work club is Tuesday lunch time.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Snowdon

Yesterday Year 3 visited the Botanic Gardens in Birmingham as part of their Rainforest Project. Children were able to see the plants that live in a tropical climate and also had the chance to handle a snake!

Titanic ignite day

24th September 2015

Year 5 had a terrific Titanic Ignite day on Tuesday!

Children spent half of the day collecting lots of knowledge about the Titanic tragedy from the expert, John,  who brought real artefacts from the ship and props from the film set for us to look at – he even gave away replicas of 3rd class mugs as prizes for individuals to keep!

The other half of the day was spent living the lifestyle of a passenger on board the Titanic in 1912. Children dressed up as 1st class or 3rd class passengers, listened to the music that the orchestra may have played during the voyage and cooked their own 3rd class meal – vegetable stew and dumplings!  After a lot of hard work in the kitchen,  they were then treated to a 1st class dessert of pears, éclairs and ice cream.

Both children and teachers had a fantastic day and we look forward to continuing our voyage over the next few weeks!

Take one Picture art workshops

By 24th September 2015

We’ve had a great week working with children, parents and grandparents in our Take One Picture art workshops and have been blown away by the quality of work being created and the teamwork and discussions had between families. We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has come along.

Tomorrow morning is our final workshop at Fen Street with Year 1 and Year 5. If anyone has sent a reply slip to school but not specified a slot or has contacted the school over the past few days about the workshop tomorrow,  we have spaces in our 10 – 11 and 11 – 12 slots so please come and join us at these times!

Next week, the art workshops will be held in Countess Way on Tuesday morning.

Tricky maths!

By 24th September 2015

We have been exploring addition and subtraction this week. Most of us felt comfortable with addition and could use these facts to explore maths in great detail. When we moved on to the formal methods of subtraction this became tricky! Some of us wanted to give up, I even heard I can not do maths! Well today we overcame this, we used dienes to help us be practical and see what was happening to the numbers. The more we explore the more we will learn! Well done for sticking with it and believing!

We have shown a lot of growth this week, both in our mindsets and our learning! Well done again year 4!
