When you are doing maths homework at home, including Mathletics, it may be useful to refer to the attachment below. It has the main approaches we use for each of the calculations and fractions. Your child may not be familiar with all the methods and they will probably have a method they prefer, which is absolutely fine. If you do have any concerns or questions, come and ask their class teacher and we would be happy to discuss the methods with you.

On World Book Day Year 2 were visited by the Year 4’s. We really enjoyed them coming downstairs to share a book with us! Hopefully we can do this again soon to share our love for reading.
Today Year 2 had a visit from Mr Rickett who taught us how important it is to write a clear character description. When we gave him a simple description without any detail, he wasn’t able to draw a very good picture. However, when we gave him a really detailed description he was able to do an amazing drawing of an oompa loompa! This will ignite our invent writing next week!

Year 2 team
Today we had a visit from Mrs Fry who taught us all about chocolate. We learnt all about the history of chocolate and where chocolate comes from. Also we got to taste different chocolates – one was lemon flavour!! Everyone got to make their own chocolate lolly which was whatever shape we wanted. There were lollies of every shape – hearts, stars, trees and even crocodiles!

We were invited to present our project outcome in a Brooklands Farm Dragon’s Den! We have spent the last few weeks creating our own lunchbox that can be transported to each site along a wire. Our product needed to be waterproof, light and suitable enough to carry Miss Low’s lunch. We spent lots of time reviewing our product and then pitching our ideas to Miss Low and her fellow dragons. They were really excited about our designs and asked us questions that made us think about our next steps in our learning.
In Year 2 we have been following instructions to create aliens. We had to follow each other’s instructions which was actually really hard! We learnt that we need to explain each instruction simply so our partner can understand it.
