Weaving a journey as a philosopher at Brooklands Farm

Brooklands Farm promotes respect and open-mindedness towards others with different faiths and beliefs and encourages pupils to develop their sense of identity and belonging through self-awareness and reflection. The principle aim of RE is to engage pupils in an enquiry approach where they can develop an understanding and appreciation for the expression of beliefs, cultural practices and influence of principle religions and worldviews in the local, national and wider global community.

Religious Education is unique in the school curriculum in that it is neither a core nor a foundation subject, however the Guidance released in 2010 views it as an important curriculum subject. We use Discovery RE from Key Stage One and Two and can be used to contribute to the learning experiences of the early learning goals within the Foundation Stage.

At Brooklands Farm Primary School, we value the importance of a well-rounded education, including Religious Education (RE), which provides students with an understanding of different faiths and beliefs. However, we understand that parents may have differing views on the content of RE lessons.

As per government guidelines, parents have the legal right to withdraw their child from Religious Education lessons if they wish. Should you choose to exercise this right, please inform the school in writing so that we can make the necessary arrangements.

We are committed to working with families to ensure that all students receive a respectful and supportive learning experience that aligns with both the school’s values and the wishes of parents. If you have any questions or would like to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact us.
