Remote Education at Brooklands Farm Primary School
At Brooklands Farm Primary School, we are committed to providing our pupils with high-quality education, whether they are learning in school or at home. However, in line with government guidance, attendance at school is a priority for all pupils, and remote education is not viewed as an equal alternative to attending in-person lessons.
This page outlines the circumstances under which remote education may be offered, the steps we will take to support pupils, and the procedures for reintegration when appropriate.
When Remote Education May Be Provided
Remote education will only be provided under certain conditions when pupils are unable to attend school in person. These situations include, but are not limited to, the following:
- School closure: If it is deemed unsafe to open the school or if we are required to close the school in line with government guidance.
- Health-related absences: Individual pupils who are unable to attend school due to illness (e.g., infectious diseases), recovering from surgery, injury, or facing mental health challenges.
- Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND): Pupils whose attendance is affected by SEND or other individual needs may receive remote education on a case-by-case basis.
- Government guidance: If local or national government guidance advises against in-person attendance.
Our Approach to Remote Education
We understand that remote learning is different from traditional classroom learning, and we strive to make sure it is as effective as possible. When remote education is needed, we will provide resources and support to help pupils continue their education at home.
Case-by-Case Approach
In the rare cases when remote education is required, the school will assess each situation individually. We will work closely with parents/carers, pupils, and if necessary, medical professionals or local authorities (for children with Education, Health, and Care Plans, or a social worker), to agree on a suitable plan for remote learning. This includes:
- Mutual Agreement: Remote education will be provided only with the mutual agreement of the school, the family, and, if appropriate, a medical professional or social worker.
- Time Limit: We will aim for pupils to return to in-person learning as soon as it is safe and feasible. There will be a clear plan in place for reintegration into school, which will be reviewed regularly to ensure progress.
- Additional Support: If needed, extra support will be provided to help pupils reintegrate back into school as soon as they are able.
Remote Education in Practice
When remote education is necessary, we will deliver lessons through a variety of online tools and platforms to ensure learning continues. These tools include:
- Tapestry (for Foundation Stage pupils)
- Online line learning platforms such as; Century Tech, Google Classroom, Doodle Spell, Myon, TT Rockstars, Nearpod (for Years 1-6)
- Learning Maps available on our website for all year groups to support continued learning at home.
Parents can request paper based work, please discuss this with the class teacher.
Foundation Stage (Nursery & Reception)
For our youngest learners, work will be sent home via Tapestry. These will typically be practical activities that mirror the types of learning the children would be engaging with in the classroom. These tasks are designed to be hands-on and promote learning through play, exploration, and creative expression.
Key Stage 1 & 2 (Years 1-6)
For pupils in Years 1-6, remote education will aim to mirror the content being taught in the classroom as closely as possible. Tasks will be set via our chosen online platforms, and pupils will be expected to complete these independently where possible, without the constant support of an adult at home. These tasks will cover a range of subjects and will vary according to the content being taught. Pupils will have access to:
- Centry Tech: An online learning platform with interactive lessons and activities. The teacher will be able to see the data and identify gaps.
- Google Classroom: For receiving assignments, submitting work, and communicating with teachers.
- Doodle Spell & TT Rockstars: For spelling and times tables practice.
- Myon: A platform for reading, offering a wide selection of books and activities.
- Nearpod: For interactive lessons and activities that engage pupils in a variety of ways and sends the teacher data and gaps.
- Learning Maps: These are available on our website to guide pupils through the curriculum and ensure that they can continue learning in a structured way.
Brooklands Farm Primary School remains committed to providing continuity in education for all pupils, and we will continue to follow government guidance to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our school community. If you have any questions or concerns about remote education or attendance, please contact the school office or your child’s class teacher.
